When a website is developed you provide the information that needs to be displayed, i.e. - your company logo, address, description of services, etc. The website developer formats the information and adds coded instructions to browsers about how to display your information.
When you purchase a website you are paying for someone to write documents that contain your information and the
instructions that tell browsers how to display the information. The
information you provide may need to be edited or enhanced and graphics
may need to be designed, developed, provided, and/or optimized.
Websites are stored on computers known as servers that
are always powered up and always connected to the internet. Servers have
the necessary software to send web pages to anyone who requests them.
Upon completion, the web developer uploads your website to a
server.
You must rent space on a server to store your web
page so that it is available to anyone online at any time. The
web developer can assist you in the rental of server space.
You must purchase a domain name (www.YourName.xxx),
which gives your website a unique name that serves as the address to
be typed in to request your page. The web developer can assist
you in obtaining a domain name.
The web developer may also:
- Register the website with search engines.
- Maintain and update the website as needed.
- Act as a technical representative.
